Sat Nam (Truth is my Identity)

“The base of society ever was, is, and ever shall be woman. Therefore, each woman has to turn her own values towards gracefulness. She has to live it, and then she has to share those values with the coming generations. That is the only way we can change life from one generation to the next.” ~ Yogi Bhajan
Mountain Pose
November 17th, 2010 // Wellness, Yoga
Tadasana or Mountain Pose is one of my favorite yoga asanas. Within its simplicity are all the answers and the yoga we seek.
“You can find out anything you want to know about yourself through this one pose.” -Swami Radha

Other good reasons to practice mountain pose are to imagine the magnificence of a mountain and know that it is reflected in you.
I am so grateful to have grown up on the coast, surrounded by so much beauty. As much as I love to practice this pose on the mat in the city, I also do my best to visit them when I can. These shots were taken on my most recent visit to Vancouver Island at the top of Mount Tzouhalem.
Namaste,

The Emotion of Yoga

For me, yoga is a practice where I give myself an opportunity to slow down enough to listen to what my body is saying. In this process I deepen my relationship with my self through the sensations in my body, which results in a deeper relatedness with my world. One of my teachers once said “We are not using our bodies to get into postures, we are using these postures to get into our bodies.”
Our bodies are energy vibrating. When that energy is not in motion we experience sensations such as tension and tightness. When we don’t take time to tune into the subtle sensations of our bodies, these aches and pain have the potential to become chronic challenges. By exploring our bodies with the breath and experiencing sensations as they arise with acceptance, we allow them to change. We might notice these sensations shifting into an emotion in certain poses. This is energy in motion: e-motion.
It is valuable to balance a more active yoga practice or exercise routine with a slower class such a Yin or Restorative to deepen the relationship with the incredible body that is housing your spirit of pure love.
Love well,
Sara
