Commitment

January 21st, 2012 // Art

This is the beginning of a long time project I have been working on.

Wedding dresses are one of the last things still manufactured with a specific woman in mind, made with plenty of beautiful fabric and tell such a story.

I was inspired to express what it means to be a woman and a wife in the 21st century by deconstructing a select group of gowns and remaking them into something new.

This one has been hand sewn into an apron which is ironic because this is one busy and successful career woman who rarely cooks.

Commitment is the way through relationship challenges, it heals deadness and allows for a deeper level of bonding that was previously unavailable.

Love well,

Orgasmic Birth: Healing Sexual Guilt

January 19th, 2012 // Birth

I remember first hearing the term ‘Orgasmic Birth‘ long before I became certified as a Birth Doula. Childbirth still in my long term future, it certainly peaked my interest as something that sure seemed like a better experience than the pain typically associated with birth we are exposed to in modern media.

I immediately started sharing this idea with plenty of my single friends as if it was the newest and absolute best invention since the condom and was surprised to be responded not only with disgust but embarrassment. “Ew, I would be so grossed out if I found out my mom had an orgasm when she was in labor with me!” My response was something along the lines of “but its okay for women to suffer?”. If it is any consolation, I did have a nice young gentleman profess his love for me during one of these conversations.

The 2nd Chakra is the most damaged energy center in our bodies collectively at this point in humanity’s history. It is related to our sexuality, ability to fee pleasure and experience joy. Folks, the number one reason why we are here is because a couple of people, namely your parents (so gross, right?) had sex. The love they felt for each other was enough of a spark to create the miracle that is you. Minus all the fancy modern technology such as In Vitro fertilization, creation has a purely sexual nature to it. And don’t forget that the majority of us still arrive on this planet through the incredible vaginal canal. When a couple is bonded during the birth process and the mother allows herself to experience the love they share as a couple, it will most certainly ease the pain of labor.

We are all sexual beings. It is our nature and what created us. Our own guilt around sex is what would limit the flow in our relationships, lives and potentially even our births. It has been hanging around in the collective consciousness for sometime now and its about time we redeemed our innocence in this area. It would free us to allow more joy and creativity into our lives. Whether or not we experience an orgasm at birth, embracing our sexual nature could help us surrender a bit more to the mysterious and powerful nature of birth.

Love well,

The Shadow of Social Responsibility

January 14th, 2012 // Business, Entrepreneurship, Feminine-ist

Since graduating with a degree in fashion design in 2005, I have witnessed the green movement become not only a trend but normalized, even expected. As Gen X & Y continue to seek deeper meaning in their lives by giving back to better the world, Corporate Social Responsibility has also become, to our relief, a common theme. Although, I have discovered it can become a bit too much of a marketing strategy than plain goodwill.

No one gives anything away for free anymore and that’s fair enough. With so much to give, business’ unfortunately often seek to get something for what they gift and I’m referring to a more than a valid tax receipt. Sure, we all like to share with our customers that we give back, that we care about the world at large and that their choice in our product or service is adding to the collective good. But when the ‘Why?’ becomes predominantly ‘This will make us look good and result in more sales etc.’ over ‘Wow, this project/organization/group really moves me and I feel inspired to help’ we are lying to our customers and sadly ourselves. Energetically, rather than give we have slipped back into that uncomfortable and unattractive giving to get mentality. Oops!

It is no reason to beat ourselves up or hop on the guilt train especially because that is probably what got us into this mess in the first place. This is our opportunity to self correct, if we truly do have those good intentions we keep speaking of (and I do believe in the heart of all hearts we do care, we want to do good and act well). We remember that nothing outside of us, or our business is going to fulfill us or make our company more successful. It is time for the business model to evolve from the exaggerated masculine we have been struggling with and integrate the receptive qualities of the feminine, turning our attentions towards the Creator for the fulfillment of our needs so that we can truly feel how abundant we are and overflow in giving from this place.

Love well, folks!
Happy New Year, welcome to the dawning of the golden age!
